We have stayed in so many of their cabins over the years and every year it keeps getting better & better...The owners / Staff take pride in every cabin to make sure it suits your individual needs! They are very much attentive to accomodating your needs! Our favorite cabin is number 25 Bearberry Manor ( 5 bedroom). Depending on if you want a small cabin or a big cabin either way each cabin we have stayed in are move in ready!! It's like coming home to all the amenties of home...Just bring your clothing, toiletries and food and everything else is there. Yes...Kitchens supplied with cookware, etc...Family can enjoy watching movies since the cabins are also equipped with either vhs or dvd with tv is in the cabin...Hey did you forget a movie..No worries they have not only movies to rent but games too...A game night with family ' Lot's of fun...Ahhh yes!!! The kids have a great playground to play on. It's your choice...You can stay at Golden Bear Cottages for your vacation and be treated like family, or you can stay somewhere else and be treated like a customer! I prefer the smiles and heart felt treatment we recieve every year we come!!! There is one place for us and that's Golden Bear Cottages where we are Kings and Queens! Oh yes!!! Each cabin is clean and dressed in cute decor with a mountian-like rustic look. It's a warm feeling and we are always pleased with our stay...So come feel the love 'We did'

A Review:
We spent 4 days at Golden Bear Cottages both of these past two years for the Thanksgiving holiday. The first time we had been to Big Bear lake we were looking for a family retreat, and we really found a good one here. We truly enjoyed the hospitality at Golden Bear Cottages. Our children were constantly in and out of the office to borrow sports equipment and ask questions, and the great people there made them feel comfortable each time. Their request was that we return to Golden Bear each year for the holidays. We have booked a three bedroom cottage for our extended family for this Thanksgiving. It will make our third straight year at Golden Bear and we can't wait to get there again. See you soon!"

"CLEAN CABINS INSURED FOR GUESTS OF GOLDEN BEAR COTTAGES RESORT:
for many years, my job as Head Housekeeper at Golden Bear Cottages included making sure the cabins were absolutely as clean as possible for our guests. To accomplish this my bosses introduced me to the ultraviolet light inspection system from Rest Assured Corp. Golden Bear Cottages staff's use of this system checks to make sure housekeepers clean deeper than the surface cleaning you normally find in hotels. It allows the Golden Bear Cottages housekeeping supervisor to detect any residue or fluids left by the previous guest or our housekeeper. Then, they make sure any problem is corrected before you check into your clean, cozy Golden Bear Cottages cabin. To our knowledge, they are the only hotel, resort or vacation cabin rental property in Big Bear Lake to take the time to use this revolutionary Rest Assured Light Inspection System... and I should know, because I have been a Housekeeping Supervisor at 3 other top Big Bear rental properties over the last 20 years. "Top Rating.
I contacted Golden Bear Cottages in behalf of my husband and his strike team who were fighting the Butler 2 fire. His team, consisting of a large group of 22 firefighters with 5 engines was in need of a good nights sleep after sleeping in parking lots for three nights. The folks at Golden Bear Cottages could not have been more helpful. They set aside enough cottages to meet the firefighter's needs and in addition offered them rates that were affordable. "We stayed with a large group that booked the entire resort property(28 cabins). We came mostly from Arizona. The resort cabins at Golden Bear Cottages were beautiful. Rustic cabins in the cool mountains at 7000 feet elevation. The cabins and grounds were very clean and well kept. The maids and landscaping staff were always trying to do something special. The office staff went out of their way to be friendly and accommodate all of our needs. This was a welcome surprise, as our group has some pretty picky people. But lhey all left happy... wanting to know how to sign up for next year's retreat event at Golden Bear Cottages in Big Bear. THANK YOU to Don, Karen, Lisa, Len and all the staff. The people at Golden Bear Cottages were delightfully friendly and accomodating. The price was reasonable, considering the time of year. The little economy cottage we stayed in this time was a bit near the road, but the other cabins are back far enough the road so it is not noisy. My companion and I would doubtless choose to stay with our friends at Golden Bear the next time we choose to visit Big Bear Lake. Oh, and by the way, they gave us $25 a day in free gasoline for our vacation at Golden Bear Cottages. Many thanks, y en espanol: muchas gracias."

"We just returned from our 4 day stay at Golden Bear Cottages. Had a great time. The staff is extremely accommodating and very friendly. The cabin we stayed in was the perfect size and had almost everything you could think of stocked in the kitchen....from pots, pans, spatulas, baking pans, coffee pot, flatware, dishware, I can go on and on! We would definitely stay at Golden Bear Cottages in the future.

"We returned for another wonderful time over 4th of July weekend to Golden Bear Cottages in Big Bear, CA. The cabin was clean and decorated in quaint, country style charm. It had a fireplace, a fully stocked kitchen, and a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom.
We found plenty to do, including the teenagers. We relaxed by the pool and enjoyed the playground with volleyball, horseshoes, ping pong, and tether ball. We watched movies on the VCR in our room at night, as well as by the pool on Saturday night. The office has a nice gift shop, and a large library of movies for rent, and games for the kids. We also enjoyed the local news in the room, which highlighted local attractions and special events in the area. We watched the fireworks show over the lake, and visited the local zoo for the first time. Both were impressive!
The service was excellent, including management, maintenance, and housekeeping. Our room was stocked daily with whatever was needed, and maintenance saved the day by supplying us with an extension cord to make our traditional homemade ice cream on 4th of July. Hats off to Golden Bear Cottages for providing such a charming, relaxing escape in the gorgeous mountain atmosphere. We'll be back!"

"Our review...My family has been staying at Golden Bear Cottages resort for our Summer vacations since my dad was a little boy. My grandpa Bill would always tell us to get ready to go to Big Bear for a week after school was out, and we talked about it constantly for weeks. Now, we tell our kids the same stories about our great Big Bear memories for summer vacation at our favorite getaway from the summer heat. The folks at Golden Bear Cottages always welcome us back. "We spent our yearly family vacation at Golden Bear Cottages.
It is the perfect mountain retreat from all the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles. We chose Golden Bear Cottages because of the following reasons: it is family friendly, it has real historic cabins, cleanliness, location and a referral from a friend at work who goes all the time. First of all, remember that this is a historic mountain resort. That means that the cabins were built over 75 years ago. But, let me tell you that their staff really keeps these beautiful old cabins up! They have all been refurbished, and are top notch. It is not like going to a 5 star hotel, with everything white and dry walled. The historic cabins at Golden Bear are made out of logs and real knotty pine. They staff and owners at this resort have spent real effort to restore them as they were originally built. We took a tour of many of the cabins. They have only changed part of the bathrooms from original, so they could put those big two person spa tubs in most of them. The time the owners and staff spent with us shows their true desire to make us a life-long customer and friend. They have succeeded! We will definitely return many times in the years to come. It is like our own timeshare, but better because we only have to pay for it when we go for vacation. Thank you to all! You are the best!"

"Our family recently enjoyed a wonderful family reunion at beautiful Golden Bear Cottages in Big Bear Lake California. In addition to coming from California, some of our families came from the east coast and Mexico. Each year our family tries to out do ourselves by finding a better location than the year before. In the many years that we have done our family reunions we have never found a more perfect spot than Golden Bear Cottages. We have already booked again for next year, which will be the very first time we have gone to the same location more than one time. We now plan to make our reunion an annual event at Golden Bear.
It is difficult to put our wonderful experience into words. When we orginally called to inquire about Golden Bear Cottages we found the office manager to be wonderfully helpful. She worked with us to help each family find exactly the right cottage that fit their needs. We worked back and forth while I, and other family members, checked Golden Bear's web-site for all of the information we needed to make informed decisions. Even before we arrived at Golden Bear, we were sure that we had made the right decision for our retreat. Many of our family members read previous guests experiences in the open guest book on the Golden Bear Web-site and we quickly found them to be accurate and helpful. When we arrived we found the entire staff to be professional, friendly, and tremendously helpful. Each and every need that anyone in our family asked for was taken care of promptly. We found the Guest Services Notebook in each cabin to be helpful in guiding us in what to do in Big Bear Lake. The cottages were clean, and the maids were anxious to help us with extra requests. All members of our family, from the children up to the elders loved the experience at Golden Bear Cottages. We will gladly recommend this serene and beautiful family resort to all of our friends."

"Review of Golden Bear Cottages...As a service member with countless assignments and 'business trips' that take me around the world, I made one promise to my wife and that was to give her the wedding of her dreams when we renewed our vows. The Christian management and staff at Golden Bear Cottages resort was far more than accommodating. Knowing our plans and desires, they provided valuable inject regarding the wedding ceremony and reception. Their involvement quickly grew in comparison to family participation. Thanks to their support and accommodation, my wife filled her eyes with tears because the event far exceeded her dreams.
As a family, the facilities were balanced to accommodate all ages. With a family of seven children ranging in ages 3 to 9 years old, we were never without activities or space to explore. The property motivated and set a family atmosphere of peace and relaxation for all, including us parents.

"Just what I was looking for”
My boyfriend and I were looking for an affordable three day weekend getaway up in Big Bear. Thank God for us this place was just what we were looking for! It was a very quaint looking cozy cabin. The cabin provided us with everything we needed and we had our own jacuzzi which was a plus. They also upgraded us to a larger cabin because the one we booked, the jacuzzi switch wasn't working. It was a very pleasant experience, soo nice. I would definitely come back here again and recommend it to anyone who is looking for an affordable place and a great staff to take care of you. Our family recently joined the Vacation Club at Golden Bear Cottages in Big Bear Lake. We had been to Big Bear many times before, so we decided to find out if we could save some money by joining the vacation club. We are very impressed with the savings, service and flexibility of this new vacation club program. We get to vacation in the size cabin that fits our family's needs for five days or more each year for up to five years. The price was 40% less per day than we had paid before and we get to go anytime there is a cabin available. The first time we used the program, our size cabin was not available the days we wanted to go... so the great staff at Golden Bear Cottages upgraded us at no extra charge! Boy, isn't that refreshing! That has never happened from the timeshare company we belong to, and we paid many times more dollars for that vacation! I think it is safe to say we are going to be very happy with our Vacation Club purchase at Golden Bear Cottages. Thank you so much to the staff for all their superior service!"

We live in the IE and suprisingly had never been to Big Bear. The family and I took a drive up one Sat. am and loved it! We happened to go off some reviews and I had my husband find this place. It was so cute and the owners were so sweet and helpful! We ended up spending the night up there in the Bear Hug cabin and now I'm getting ready to book a longer vacation for the spring ! I dont understand why they got such a bad review previously on the Internet? That's what prompted me to write this. This place was awesome! I guess some people are just strange!"

"Best Value and now a Great Mountain Vacation Club too.
Our family has been going to the mountains for a family vacation for years. Sometime we would go in the Winter, Summer, Spring or even Fall. Over the years we stayed numerous times at Golden Bear Cottages resort in Big Bear Lake. The last time we decided to join their Vacation Club. Now, we have been enjoying the mountains enen more. It's close to home, so we can drive there in a little over an hour. The price is so affordable, we bought our Vacation Club membership even during this difficult economy because we saved over 40% of what we normally pay for our vacation. We are writing this review to encourage other Christian families to become members too. It's a great way to get out of the city and enjoy a relaxing and clean place in the mountains with your family. We have going to Golden Bear Cottages for 25 years and continue to go back as much as time and money permits. The owners - Don & Karen, Lenny & Lisa are the nicest people. They bend over backwards to help you have the best experience staying with them. The cabins are always very clean and well maintained as is the entire six acre resort property. With the heated pool and spa, horse shoe pit, basketball court, ping pong, volleyball court, and play ground its easy to keep as active as you want. If you want to relaxe you can BBQ next to your cabin or sit in the pool or jacuzzi. Our pet friendly cabin has a fenced yard in back for our dog. We like to sit by the pool and play Yatzee. We highly recommend staying at historic Golden Bear Cottages and tell all our friends and family if they are in Big Bear they should stay at Golden Bear Cottages!!!
We joined their Vacation Club last visit so we can return to Golden Bear more often!"

"Review and positive comment... I have been taking retreat groups of 15-20 people or more up to Big Bear for the past 4 years and we have stayed at Golden Bear Cottages Resort every year. Their Big Bear family vacation rental cabins are great and there are so many sizes to choose from. The staff is kind and can help you out in all of your activities. From hiking, skiing, or snowshoeing, they can direct you. The staff is also like family. We actually made cookies one year and invited Golden Bear's handyman over for a sweet dessert with us! Family owned and right down the street from the slopes, Golden Bear is a great getaway for any family, church group, or adventurer. Thanks for the memories to Don and the staff!!"

"Great location for group retreat.
A review by Kelly.
I led a church youth retreat to Big Bear last month for a group of 10, and we stayed at Golden Bear. I was a little nervous because I hadn't checked it out ahead of time in person (had just looked at pictures and read reviews), but there was no reason for my nerves... it was exactly the way I had hoped it would be. We stayed in the five-bedroom cabin, and it was great. Lots of space for us to sleep upstairs, relax in the living room area (couches can be moved around for different configurations for games, movie watching, devotion time, etc.), and eating in the large dining room. One of the best parts is the kitchen - stocked with plenty of plates, cups, mugs, cookie sheets, pans, cheese grater, spoons and spatulas, etc. We brought up our own food in a cooler and loved being able to cook for ourselves all weekend - it was cheaper, and a great bonding experience as we made spaghetti, tacos, brownies, hash browns, etc. together. We did have trouble one night with the sink backing up when we were washing dishes, but we just used the bathroom sink instead, and someone promptly came and fixed it so it was no trouble the rest of the weekend. Golden Bear is conveniently located just a few miles away from the ski resorts (although, we were there on a sold out ski day and it took a long time to get there because of traffic... but that would be the case no matter where you stay!) The cabins are charming, had great snow coverage, and were very cozy... exactly what we were hoping for. The staff was very kind and friendly to us... check-in was quick, and when we checked out, someone gave us directions to get back home a faster way down the mountain. Trying to think of anything else... there was a DVD/VHS player in the living room, which we enjoyed using. We never used the brick fireplace, but the cabin was plenty warm with just the heat on. The high school students in our group really enjoyed the place - I think they're used to a little more run down conditions for past retreats, and I heard several times that we had picked a good place and that they liked it. It's also nice because we were all in the same 'house', and no one else was with us, which isn't always the case at a typical retreat facility - you often have to share with other groups, or are split into two different buildings far apart from each other. All in all, a great Christian run retreat. If we choose to do another Winter Camp next year (which at this point, I think we will!), we would definitely return to Golden Bear Cottages."

"Our family of eight was looking foward to a weekend in the snow for my grandson's birthday in January. That week Big Bear received a record 50 year snowfall and and most roads were temporarily closed to non-residents. We were able to reschedule our weekend and enjoyed every minute. This was our first time renting in Big Bear and our stay here at Golden Bear Cottages was perfect. Thank you to Lisa for making our family weekend happen. "To our valued friends at Golden Bear Cottages...
GUESS I WON'T BE DRINKING STARBUCKS ANYMORE! ! !
Recently, Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to
let them know how much they liked their coffees and to request that
they send some of it to the troops there. Starbucks replied, telling the
Marines thank you for their support of their business, but that Starbucks
does not support the war, nor anyone in it, and that they would not send the troops their brand of coffee.
So as not to offend Starbucks, maybe we should not support them by
buying any of their products! I feel we should get this out in the open.
I know this war might not be very popular with some folks, but that
doesn't mean we don't support the boys on the ground fighting
street-to-street and house-to-house.
If you feel the same as I do then pass this along, or you can
discard it and no one will never know.
Thanks very much to the Golden Bear Cottages resort staff for your support of our military. I know you'll all be there again
when I deploy once more. I can't wait to return to Big Bear Lake.

Every year we return (this was our 20th visit as close as we can remember) to Golden Bear Cottages to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We enjoy the rustic, at home, feel of the clean cabins and we always relax and enjoy ourselves. Golden Bear Cottages is a great getaway spot only a couple of hours away from home. We have also been able to slip away during the snow season for a few days of r&r these past few years. Always a wonderful mountain experience.
