FISHING TIPS
JULY 22, 2008
Big Bear Lake
Trout fishing improved this past week, as the fish settled into
their new territory. Anglers that shore fished from Windy Pt. to
the dam, as well as, anglers drift fishing the same area landed
quality fish with some limits reported. A slip bobber setup is a
must. The fish are holding in ten to twenty five feet of water and
will hit doughbaits and night crawlers fished in that zone.
Trollers working the same area, at two to two and a half colors
also got in on the action. The top producing lures off the week
were Helgy's, Thomas Buoyants and the all-time number one Big
Bear Lake lure the red-dot frog
Needlefish.
Big Catfish
continued to show all along the east end. Nitro Biscuits, shrimp
and mackerel fished off the bottom resulted in catches of fifteen
to twenty pound whiskerfish. Dan and Tyler Zayas of La Verne once
again showed their catfish expertise by landing 18.82 lb. and 20.62
lb. kitties off their favorite spot, Eagle Pt.
If you are
"trouted-out" at this time, try going after the
Summertime species of panfish, bass and catfish. Lake Records have
not been established for Crappie, Bluegill, or Small and Largemouth
Bass. Jigs, spinners, rattle cranks, plastics or a good old night
crawler will work on these fish, and you too could have a Lake
Record. But, still lots of trout to bring in!
Big Bear Marina is
proud to announce that we are the first OFFICIAL WEIGH STATION on
Big Bear Lake. New LAKE RECORDS will be established! Bring your BIG
FISH and QUALITY LIMITS to the marina for weigh-in and be eligible
for monthly prizes.

It's that
time of year again. You know, when things are getting a little too
crazy on the home front and you just gotta escape with a group of
your good buds. It's amazing what a few days of not shaving or
changing your favorite t-shirt, no matter how much it begins to
smell, can do for you. Besides, you deserve it. You've been
working way too hard. Some real relaxation is in order. Just you,
your friends, a fishing pole and cooler full of coldies. It's
not even so much about the fishing or whether you even catch a
fish. It's more about just hangin' with the guys in some
cool wilderness cove telling stories and rehashing your foolish
antics from previous trips. Golden Bear Cottages in Big Bear Lake
is your getaway fishing spot just 200 yards from the lake. Golden
Bear Cottages resort is rated one of the top 12 fishing lodges in
North America.Click here to see the Press

QUAGGA
AND ZEBRA MUSSEL
Dept. of Fish and Game Quagga Mussel
Information
With the
discovery of the Quagga Mussel in Lake Mead, Lake Havasu and many
other southern California lakes, we are taking the necessary steps
to prevent their spread to Big Bear Lake. It is critical that we
enlist the public's help. Boats
are the primary transporters of Zebra and Quagga Mussels. Any
vessel traveling from another lake or the Colorado River should
remain dry and out of water for at least seven days prior to
entering Big Bear Lake. All boaters should take the following steps
to inhibit the spread of the Zebra and Quagga Mussel.
Zebra and
Quagga Mussels bad for boaters and fish.
-
Destroy
fish habitat and food sources, thus threatening the
fishery.
-
Ruin your
engine by blocking the cooling system causing
overheating.
-
Increase
drag on the bottom of your boat, reducing speed and wasting
fuel.
-
Jam
steering equipment on boats.
-
Colonize
all underwater objects such as boat ramps, docks, lines and other
surfaces so they require constant cleaning.
HERE'S HOW YOU CAN
HELP!
-
Thoroughly
wash the hull of each watercraft once it is out of the water,
removing all plants and animal material.
-
Drain any
water through the vessel's hull plug, and ensure the area is
dry.
-
Ensure the
vessel's lower outboard unit is drained and dry.
-
Clean and
dry any live-well aboard the vessel.
-
Empty and
dry any buckets.
-
Dispose of
all bait in the trash.
Keep Big Bear Lake Quagga Mussel free...
Make sure your boat is CLEAN,
DRAINED, and DRY!
